About Destiny Defied: Book One in The Destiny series.
A dramatic shipwreck emancipates Riki Hammad, but the island where she finds refuge is compromised. Unless she finds a power truly great enough to defeat her dark past, she will choose death over returning to captivity. Lord VĂ©tis, high priest of a cultic underground, will stop at nothing to reclaim their chosen one. Using black magic, he manipulates Riki and her four self-assigned bodyguards, triggering a battle that consumes the entire island. The underground will never allow Riki to live out her dreams of a normal life…something she has never known.

My thoughts:

I have read a few Frank Peretti novels that I found very interesting and opened my about spiritual warfare, so I thought I would read this book to see how it would compare. I have to say that I am now on J.A.'s fan list. I liked the friendship of the foursome and how they didn't really preach to each other or to Riki. I thought it was great how they used code words to help each other out, which to me is a great way to help someone without antigonizing them. If their attitude would have been ungodly and had treated Riki differently, it would most likely have an opposite effect causing Riki to not accept God's love. I need to always remember that my actions speak louder than words. I think I can relate a little bit with all the characters but I probably am more like Riki in that I have had to deal with anger and pain by having been victimized myself. I had to learn to put my trust in God in order to forgive and move forward. I can't wait to read the next two books in the series to see if Chiara ever finds her place in this world.
