About "Someone Like You":

Single mom Julia Dare has a lot on her plate.

A brand new Christian, Julia is busy trying to run her own business, spend time with her widowed mother, and raise her young son, Max, despite his father’s less-than-ideal influence on him. When a big account from her event-planning business sends her to the Caliente Springs resort, she’s shocked to come face-to-face with Zeke Monroe, the resort’s general manager and her college sweetheart.

With his faith in tatters, Zeke Monroe is determined to keep the historic Caliente Springs resort running despite financial difficulties. But when Julia walks back into his life, he can’t ignore the feelings she stirs up. As they work together on an important client’s dream wedding, the fate of the resort soon depends on their success. When Zeke and Julia are pushed to their limits both personally and professionally, will their history put up walls between them or bring them together?

My thoughts:

This contemporary romance has a few conflicts going on. First,
Zeke and Julia have a history, he used to be a strong Christian while Julia was not interested in Christianity. Now, six years later Julia is the strong believer and Zeke is the now one who is not interested in being a Christian. After years of struggling to be perfect he finally reaches the point where he breaks down and lets God take control. Being a Christian does not mean we have to be perfect. Another battle is Julia having to get Hunter, her ex boyfriend and the father of her son Max, to realize that she is done with their relationship. She finally takes a stand against Hunter's constant manipulations when he not only lets their four year old drink an alcohol beverage but he also forces him to consume lobster causing him to get sick.

Victoria's characters are believable in that they make the same mistakes and deal with the same issues that readers do. I found myself captivated from the beginning of the story to the end. I laughed at the antics of a goat, got mad at the father who would put his son in harms way, and wondering when Zeke was going to finally let God take control of his life. Great story with a great lesson. Relying on God, instead of ourselves, removes the pressures of life off of us and unto him. We are then free to accept the gifts that God has to offer, such as peace, joy, contentment, and love.

This is the first book I have read by Victoria, I am going to make the time to read some of her other contemporary and historical stories to see if they are just as entertaining as this one. Visit Victoria's website to learn more and to purchase a copy, you can also purchase on Amazon.
