About 14 years ago my husband built me a tall bird house with a couple of small boards with some hooks so I could add some bird feeders. He set it up in my front yard next to the driveway. The bird house is very special because he had our son, who was about 2 years old at the time, put his hand-prints all over it. For years I have enjoyed watching many different types of birds come to eat the seed. Recently I ordered the new Sibley bird book from Chewy.com months ago just so I could learn more about all the birds I have watched eat the seed I put in the feeders. Last year I was super excited when I finally had a pair of grosbeaks and a pair of orioles come feed from springtime clear into the early summer. That is when we purchased a motor home that had to be parked in the driveway, unfortunately, there was a pine tree with some low hanging branches that required some serious trimming. Well, my husband ended up trimming so much of the branches that most of the birds quit coming to eat. I assumed they didn't feel as secure anymore with a lot
of the foliage gone.  While I was disappointed with the disappearance of the orioles and the grosbeaks, I was even more more so when the cardinals that I had been feeding for years also left. At the beginning of  January I noticed a young cardinal hanging out in a tree in our backyard. Knowing that cardinals love sunflower seeds I quickly ordered a bag of  Wagner's Four Season 100% Black Oil Sunflower Seed Wild Bird Food from Chewy.com so I could start feeding it in the backyard pine tree in the hopes that it would stay.

The Wagner's Sunflower Seeds come in a 20-lb bag with a easy to carry handle. Another great feature is the easy to pull off string to open the bag.

The seeds have thin shells that let the bird crack them easily, sunflower seeds give the birds lots of energy for flying around.

I put the sunflower seeds in a tube tube feeder and in this window feeder, in the hopes that I can see a songbird up close. It has been about two weeks now that I have been feeding the young cardinal and so far it has stuck around. Big win for me to have won back a cardinal, hopefully by springtime the grosbeaks will return. Perhaps the orioles will too if I add hummingbird feeder back there as well. Wagner's bird seed has been around since 1894 and it is made in the USA making it ideal for me to use for feeding the birds around my area.
