Glen Campbell was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2011 just as he was releasing his Album "Ghost on the Canvas". Glen and his wife went public with the diagnosis, which was the first time a major American celebrity would share this experience with the world. Along with his family, Glen then embarked on a short “Goodbye Tour.” but the three-week engagement turned into an emotional and triumphant 151-show nationwide tour de force. Glen's family is giving the world a rare glimpse inside his battle with the disease in the new documentary “Glen Campbell: I'LL BE ME” that follows music legend Glen Campbell’s three year battle with Alzheimer’s and is documented by award winning filmmaker, James Keach. The documentary premiers October 24th.

My thoughts:
I was a young girl the first time I heard the song "By the time I get to Phoenix" by Glen Campbell. I became a fan then and an even bigger fan when he released "The Rhinestone Cowboy" when I was in high school. One of the biggest high lights of my life was when my husband and I were able to see him play at the local casino some years ago. It sure saddened me to hear about his Alzheimer's diagnosis. My husbands grandfather suffered from it so we are aware of what it entails. This documentary just tore at my heart strings! It begins with Glen and his wife looking at old movies and Glen asks who the people are, not realizing it is about him. His fourth and current wife, Kim tells him who all the people are; his children and his first three wives. We get to see a doctor explain the Alzheimer's diagnosis, then the struggles his family goes though during rehearsals and trying to promote the album "Ghost on the Canvas". Three of his children; Ashley, Shannon, and Cal perform with him on the tour and it was awesome to hear some of his new songs from the album along with his older hits. If you are a Glen Campbell fan you will enjoy watching this documentary and listening to him play his guitar and sing. I have to admit that I cried listening to the last song "I'm Not Going To Miss You" which explains so well about what is happening to him.
