About My Father's House:

Growing up, life is idyllic for Lily Rose Cates due to one constant --- her father's love.

But in her sixteenth summer, all that changes without warning. There begins Lily's struggle to find herself and the life she's lost. . . . Marriage promises fulfillment, but her happily-ever-after barely survives the honeymoon. Her husband's sophisticated façade hides a brooding man with even darker secrets.

When all illusions shatter, Lily must make hard choices --- abandon her husband or risk losing much more than her marriage. She flees their home in Detroit and sets out on a fearful journey to a house in Georgia that her husband knows nothing about. This is one woman's compelling tale of love and survival as she finds her way back home to who she's meant to be . . . in her father's house.

My thoughts:

My Father's House is the story about a young girl named Lily Rose who adored her father, sadly he ends up dying right after her 16th birthday. She has always been looked after by the housekeeper Annie, so she hasn't really learned much about men. When the first guy that comes along makes her feel as special as her father did, she falls hard for him. She takes Manny home to meet Annie and her mother, but Manny doesn't pull the wool over Annie's eyes causing her to warn Lily to not get tangled up with him. Well, Lily Rose ends up marrying him anyway, only to learn the hard way that he was not the man he portrayed himself to be. She eventually gathers the strength to leave him and moves into the house that her aunt left her. She spends her time fixing up the house while making new friends, but she neglects to tell them that she is married. Manny ends up finding her and forces himself upon her. Finally realizing that he is only thinking about himself she finally gathers the strength to file for a divorce. In the end Lily comes to terms with her failed marriage and
finally learns that family and and home are very important to her and she needs to be where she belongs.

I found this to be an inspiring story about a young lady who only wanted to be loved and ended up with the short end of the stick. Fortunately, Lily had been loved enough by her father in her younger life that she comes to realize that a volatile relationship was not what she wanted for herself. Finding sanctuary in a home where she and her father had found solace in the years before her father died finally gives her the courage to make a new life for herself. I found this to be a very interesting story with a lot of Southern charm. Purchase a copy on Amazon.
